Overview

An agreement between the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology (IGB) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and ZEISS has named the IGB's Core Facilities as an official ZEISS labs@location Partner. This facility will allow researchers from around the U.S. to test-drive new instruments in the IGB’s Core Facilities Microscopy Suite. This partnership represents the first North American location of the ZEISS labs@location partner program, already in use across Europe.

The agreement allows IGB and Illinois researchers access to select cutting-edge technologies immediately following—or in some cases before—their broad release. New instruments, on loan from ZEISS, will cycle through IGB and be available to all users during that time. In addition, the partnership provides for training and classes taught by ZEISS personnel at IGB that will better position staff and researchers to best utilize new equipment.

IGB Core Facilities

The IGB Core Facilities is a robust resource for biological microscopy and image analysis. The facilities are conveniently located, and provide a variety of services to both IGB researchers and others in the campus community. The facility is meant to encourage innovation—try new techniques and approaches to achieving research goals without a significant investment in instrumentation or time. The facility is a ZEISS Labs@location partner, enabling them to provide both beta instrumentation and advance training to the campus. Specifically, the Core Facilities offer high-end equipment; user training; ongoing support, including experiment design and data interpretation; and twenty-four hour access.

IGB Core Facilities is located on the concourse level of the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
