Cancer Center at Illinois

The Cancer Center at Illinois (CCIL) is the nation's 8th NCI-designated basic cancer center, and the first basic center to earn that recognition in nearly 40 years. The center brings together engineers and scientists at the University of Illinois to advance cancer research, detection, and treatment. Three goals anchor that work:

• Bringing engineering to cancer research. As a hub where different scientific fields meet, we unite experts in engineering, physical sciences, cancer biology, chemistry, veterinary oncology, and education to develop effective, personalized cancer solutions.
• Moving discoveries from the lab to patients. Two research programs power this work: one develops new imaging tools, sensors, and data-science methods to detect cancer earlier and more accurately. The other uncovers the biology behind cancer and builds new models and therapies.
• Training the next generation of cancer researchers. From elementary school outreach through graduate training, our educational programs cultivate the expertise needed to make cancer-free lives a reality.
