Find Campus Funding Opportunities

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign supports innovative research in a number of ways. Campus funding helps faculty and research staff advance new ideas, complete important preliminary studies to attract external support, and supplement resources available from other sources.

Many of the programs listed below (in alphabetical order) have revolving deadlines. Check individual websites for specific requirements and application criteria.

Center for Global Studies

Global Intersections: Student Research and Project Grants
The Global Intersections initiative pulls together multicultural, international, transnational, and global perspectives in student research by inviting collaborative proposals from faculty and students across disciplines. Successful applicants may receive up to $3,000 in support of project activities.
Deadline: April 9, 2021


Chez Veterans Center

Chez Veterans Center & Illini Veterans Student Research Award
The Student Research Award encourages student–Veterans to participate in research and highlights research activities centered on Veterans and military-affiliated communities being conducted by UIUC students. Two awards of $1,000 each will be awarded this spring.
Deadline: April 11, 2021


College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences

Future Interdisciplinary Research Explorations (FIRE)
The College of ACES FIRE award program receives generous funding support from the ACES Office of the Dean and Office of Research. This grant encourages creativity and collaboration between ACES faculty and research partners. The call is open to all tenured, tenure-track, and specialized faculty of all ranks.

Community + Research Partnership Program

Arts CO+RE: A Program to Amplify Arts + Research Partnerships
Arts CO+RE provides pilot funding for arts practitioners and researchers to partner with community organizations to engage local youth and adults in the arts. An outgrowth of the inaugural CO+RE Program, funding of up to $20K is available for as many as two Arts CO+RE projects.

Gies College of Business

iVenture Accelerator
The iVenture Accelerator lends expertise and support to student-led startups to assist in the cultivation of new ideas. Successful applicants will also receive up to $10,000 in funding to promote entrepreneurial leadership.
Deadline: April 25, 2021


Humanities Research Institute

Call for Proposals: Interseminars Initiative
HRI invites proposals for the Mellon-funded Interseminars Initiative, which provides funding and administrative infrastructure for interdisciplinary inquiry, including collaborative teaching, graduate fellowships, and support for public- or community-facing research in the humanities and arts.
Deadline: September 1, 2021

HRI Research Clusters
HRI Research Clusters provide funding for scholars with shared interests to explore and nurture ideas together which they may lack the resources to engage with on their own. Funding of up to $2,500 will be available to a maximum of five Research Clusters.
Deadline: April 9, 2021

Humanities Without Walls Seed Grant Funding
HRI is pleased to announce Seed Grant Funding for the Grand Challenge Research grants, sponsored by Humanities Without Walls, an initiative supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Seed grant funding of up to $2,000 will be awarded per collaborative team.
Deadline: April 15, 2021


National Center for Supercomputing Applications

New Frontiers Initiative Graduate Fellowships
The New Frontiers Initiative Graduate Fellowships provide PhD students with a year of full-time research support, including a stipend, tuition allowance, and up to 100,000 node-hours on the Blue Waters petascale computing system.
Deadline: April 5, 2021


Office of the Provost

Distinguished Teacher-Scholar Program
The Distinguished Teacher-Scholar Program is a premier campus award supporting excellence in areas of scholarly contribution and teaching. Successful applicants will receive $7,500 in financial support and maintain the title of University Distinguished Teacher-Scholar for as long as they remain at Illinois.
