Humanities Research Institute

The Humanities Research Institute (HRI) fosters interdisciplinary study in the humanities, arts, and social sciences at the University of Illinois. HRI supports faculty and graduate research and initiatives, as well as undergraduate programs and community-engaged work.

• Incubating bold ideas. Through fellowships, internships, and programmatic support, we provide funding and a forum for tackling big questions and imagining human-centered approaches to working for change.
• Building bridges between communities. Convening interdisciplinary audiences and doing community-engaged work, HRI is committed to programs where people can see the humanities in action.
• Shaping conversations nationally and internationally. HRI is the administrative locus for the Humanities Without Walls consortium. Through additional affiliations and advocacy, HRI fosters opportunities for humanists to impact the greater dialogue.
