Electrifying News
Last week, the White House proposed new emissions standards intended to accelerate the nation's transition to electric vehicles. To meet the ambitious goals outlined in the proposed standards, the country will need significantly more EVs—and the infrastructure to support them. The move brings a host of engineering and technical, as well as social and behavioral, challenges. The nation's research community is gearing up for the transition. Indeed, experts from across the U.S. gathered right here in C-U for the National Academy of Engineering's conference on “The Mobility Electrification Revolution” earlier this month. It's so exciting that UIUC faculty and alumni (including Tesla co-founder and Grainger College of Engineering alumnus Martin Eberhard) are at the very forefront of this revolution in transportation.
The Electrification Revolution is just one example of the impact of the Illinois research community. Whether ushering in a new era of precision agriculture, envisioning ways to combat misinformation during a pandemic, or developing a "crystal ball" to better predict enzyme function, members of our research community regularly imagine a better future for society—and then they get to work, together, to make it happen!
Sincerely,
Susan
