New Website Compiles Ocean Data from Landmark 19th-Century Scientific Voyage

The HMS Challenger collected massive amounts of data about the world’s oceans during its 19th-century voyage and laid the foundation for the fields of oceanography and marine biology.

During its four-year scientific expedition, the HMS Challenger collected a wealth of data about the world's oceans, forming the "foundation for modern marine science and oceanography.” Now, 150 years after it first sailed, that data is online, part of the Oceans 1876 project led by Gillen D’Arcy Wood.
