David Cahill Named Co-Director of New IBM-Illinois Discovery Accelerator Institute
David Cahill has been named co-director of the new IBM-Illinois Discovery Accelerator Institute. The longtime MatSE professor and Grainger Distinguished Chair in Engineering, will partner with Dr. Daby Sow, hybrid cloud services research director, IBM Research, to lead a 10-year collaboration between IBM and The Grainger College of Engineering designed to increase access to technology research, education and skill development.
Under their leadership, the IBM-Illinois Discovery Accelerator Institute will combine the scientific foundation of academia and the real-world translational expertise of the industrial sector to spur breakthroughs in emerging areas of technology. Faculty and students will work alongside IBM Research teams to tackle complex global challenges and accelerate innovations in hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence, quantum information science and technology, materials discovery, and sustainability.
