Faculty Fellow, Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)

The OVCRI invites internal applications for the position of Faculty Fellow, Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) who will work as part of an OVCRI team to ensure research integrity, promote positive mentoring practices, and foster a supportive research climate. The RCR Faculty Fellow will collaborate in the development of RCR education programs and resources, ensure RCR programs meet federal agency requirements, and promote a campus culture of compliance and integrity whereby all scholarly research is conducted in an ethical, supportive, and inclusive manner. This Faculty Fellow position will report directly to the Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation (VCRI) but will work closely with the Research Integrity Officer (RIO). In cooperation with the RIO, the Faculty Fellow will receive and evaluate allegations of research misconduct and manage further inquiry and investigation into these allegations as the specific case requires, in accordance with University policies and procedures.

The appointment is a one-year appointment that may be renewed for one year upon mutual agreement. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A suitable workload adjustment will be negotiated with the successful candidate’s unit as part of the appointment; it is probable that the position will require approximately 30-50% of the candidate’s time depending on existing obligations and degree of administrative experience. The starting date of the appointment would be as soon as possible.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Support the administration and certification of UIUC’s Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) program. Regularly review and serve as a subject matter expert as it pertains to federal agency requirements for RCR, research integrity, and research security training. Contribute to expanded content resources and deliver training sessions for campus researchers and students in mentorship and RCR. Collaborate in the development and implementation of campus training requirements, ensure federal agency requirements are addressed, and work with other OVCRI staff as needed. Work with OVCRI information technology staff to provide and maintain an innovative online environment for training and the management of RCR training records. Represent the UIUC campus within Big Ten Academic Alliance peer groups related to RCR and research integrity, and at other meetings and conferences when appropriate. In cooperation with the OVCRI’s RIO, handle allegations of research misconduct and manage further inquiry and investigation into these allegations as the specific case requires, in accordance with University policies and procedures, while maintaining the integrity of evidence and confidentiality. Draft integrity committee reports when needed; prepare and submit required federal reports and updates. Serve as a representative of the OVCRI in dealings with government agencies and key committees across the University.

Required Qualifications
•    Current tenured faculty appointment at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign 
•    Experience in graduate student and/or postdoctoral scholar support and mentorship 
•    Excellent communication, presentation, and expository skills
•    Ability to work with faculty, research staff, students, and diverse constituents from both on and outside campus.

While the following are not required, if you have the following experience, please include in your statement of interest:
•    Experience as a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on a federal grant requiring RCR training.
•    Experience in developing and providing research ethics and mentorship education programs.
•    Experience with university administrative processes and faculty governance.
•    Familiarity with the campus research community and demonstrated knowledge of federal guidelines and regulations related to compliance for grants and contracts.
