Hold on Tight!

About a decade ago, when I was an Associate Dean for Research across the STEM departments in the College of LAS, the Dean’s long-time assistant always used to say that when it comes to April, it's a good idea to fasten your seatbelt and enjoy the ride.

I was reflecting on that comment recently, because this April has been exceptional. In the past week alone, we celebrated 20 years of partnership with ZJU, joined several regional universities to launch the Taylor Geospatial Institute in St. Louis, and welcomed Senator Durbin and NSF Director Panch to campus to announce $40M in new awards to the University: An Expeditions in Computing award to Mattia Gazzola and team, and ACCESS, follow-on awards to NCSA's XSEDE program. Amy Schuele and John Towns serve as PIs on two of the ACCESS awards; Laura Herriott is co-investigator of a third (led by the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center).

As we barrel toward the end of the semester, I'm delighted to celebrate our impact—locally, across the region and around the globe. I can hardly wait to see what the coming week holds!

Sincerely,

Susan
