Training Presentations

This page will introduce the various training opportunities available. Each topic is a Powerpoint presentation that can be customized for the audience and for the time available. An IACUC Specialist will present the talk and will be happy to answer questions.

Talks can be presented at regular lab meetings, as part of a course curriculum, or at a special session, for any size audience. The host needs to arrange for the venue, but the IACUC Office can provide computer and projector, if needed.

Contact the IACUC Office at 333-7789 or iacuc@illinois.edu to arrange a training session.

Lab Check-Up

The backbone of our system of oversight is self-policing. Often a good once-over by an outsider's eye can help spot problems that you as a PI may not see. The IACUC Office offers a Lab Check-up Service to help you maintain compliance, and avoid any penalties resulting from lack of adherence to protocols as written or to university policies. An IACUC Specialist will come to your lab and review your practices and procedures with respect to your current or planned animal use protocols. Each active protocol will be examined in detail prior to the session, and then be reviewed with the PI and project personnel to make sure that everyone is implementing procedures properly, all current participants and procedures are listed, and there are no unmet stipulations. Specialists will help you make any required or recommended changes in the protocol on the spot, if necessary. The service is intended to help researchers avoid protocol violations, and repair problems before they get to the level of a protocol violation. It is best if all animal users within the lab be present for the review of the protocol(s) they are involved with. Call the IACUC office to schedule an appointment.
